GUERO
POLKAS
:
known as Richard Davila on his birth certificate,
Guero was fathered by KEDA founder Manuel Davila.
Ricky wanted to be a deejay like his father, so he set off and
moved to California, where he worked with such innovative and
pioneering musicians as Sylvestor Stewart (of Sly and the Family
Stone.) He soon became a
popular deejay in his own right speaking in Spanglish, a mixture of Spanish
and English. He also developed a persona that he adopted while on
the radio called "The Manic Hispanic. Always concerned
about his community, while announcing, he
would often promote local bail bonds services just in case his
listeners would find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
And of course, he cared about the music and the artists making
the music:
"When KEDA started in 1966, we decided to give emphasis to the
local artists who were turning out some great music. We thought
it would be ridiculous to act like snobs toward our own
musicians."
- CRUZ GONZALEZ
- DANNY CASANOVA:
Danny
has always had a hard time telling the truth, making him a hard
person to trust. He's even swindled money out of his supposed
friends and co-workers. He never owns up to his own mistakes,
and spreads rumors about other people. He has become a lying,
back stabbing little fat man.

NELDA SAENZ, "LA REINA DE CONJUNTO

I
grew up listening to KEDA radio, and I remember myself setting
my alarm clock for Saturday mornings at 6 am to listen to LUCKY
LOUIE. He inspired me to be a DJ, even though I cannot fill his
shoes I can follow his footsteps. I would also like to give a
special Thanks to Mr. Roy Paniagua my mentor. And also to La
Familia Davila for giving me the opportunity and for believing
in me in becoming a DJ. Gracias por todo love you chingos!!!!!

- MARK WEBER, "EL TAQUACHE":
Mark hails from Lebanon, Ohio and proudly claims a mixed
German and Scottish heritage. In the Southwest region of Ohio,
conjunto music and native Spanish speakers were non-existent at
the time he grew up. Both sides of his family grew up on Ohio
farmlands and for several years, his father was a migrant
worker, riding a bus through the United States to pick oranges
and apples. Mark loves the Spanish language and was elected
president of the Spanish club in high school. "El Tacuache"
started listening to KEDA in the early 90's to brush up on
Spanish. By 1993, his friend Rick Juarez encouraged him to
learn the accordion. Mark studied accordion under the
tutelage of Valerio Longoria, Bene Medina and Larry Guevara and
now plays with Tony "La Cebolla" Escalante in a church choir
each Sunday. His hobbies include playing the accordion,
bowling, physical fitness and cooking. "Tienes hambre para la
musica? Bienvenidos al banquete . . . courtesia del
Tacuache!"
